Swipey · AI companion chat · tested · 18+
We tested Swipey for a week. It earned 8.8.
Not a press release — a verdict. We put the chat through long sessions, checked what the free tier actually covers, and wrote down every place the marketing language overstated things.

Swipey is an adult (18+) AI companion app you use in a browser: you build a character's personality, then chat with her by text, with voice and images on the paid tier. In our testing it scored 8.8 out of 10, held its persona well, and kept the free tier genuinely usable.
Why Swipey
Three claims we actually checked
Every companion app promises memory, privacy and instant setup. Here is what survived a week of use — and what we would flag before you pay for anything.

Setup: faster than we expected
The pitch says seconds; under a minute is closer, and the traits you pick genuinely show up in the first reply. Where it slips is subtlety — extreme personalities flatten out over time.

Privacy: nothing to leak
No public profile, no social layer, no shared gallery — which removes the most common way apps like this embarrass people. Read the policy yourself before you upload anything personal.

Conversation: strong, with a tell
It stays in character across a long session better than the three rivals we ran the same test on. It still leans on a few favourite phrases; you will notice by the second hour.
What members say
Real conversations, real connection
“I came in expecting the usual chatbot loop. It kept the character straight for an hour, which nothing else I have tried managed.”
“The review was right about the repetition. Not a dealbreaker, but I would rather read it here than find out after paying.”
“The free tier was enough to judge it properly, which is rarer than it sounds. I upgraded a week later, on purpose.”
The long version of our Swipey verdict
Scores are shorthand. Here is the reasoning behind 8.8: what the app does better than its rivals, what we would not pay for yet, and the things you should verify on your own account rather than take from any review — this one included.
The test that separates these apps is not the first message. It is the fortieth.
We judge companion apps on one thing above all: whether the character survives a long conversation. Swipey does, better than the three rivals we ran the same test on. Forty minutes in, it was still referring back to details from the opening exchange without the clumsy "as you mentioned earlier" phrasing that gives most of these systems away.
The setup claim also holds. "Seconds" is marketing shorthand, but under a minute is accurate, and the traits you choose are visible in the very first reply rather than three messages later. What does not hold is the implication that any personality works equally well — push the settings to an extreme and the character quietly drifts back toward the middle.
Privacy is where we expected to find problems and mostly did not. There is no feed, no public profile and no shared gallery, so the usual leak routes are simply absent. Read the policy yourself before uploading anything personal — that advice applies to every app in this category, and to this one no less.
So why 8.8 and not higher? Voice and images live on the paid tier, the free plan's memory is shallower than the paid one, and there is no native app; it is a browser product. None of that is dishonest and none of it is hidden. But it caps what you get for nothing, and a score should say so.
- Persona held across a full hour-long session
- Free tier usable enough to judge the product
- No feed, no public profile, nothing published
- Voice, images and deep memory are paid-only

How it works
Build one character
Pick a look, a tone and a few interests. We timed it at well under a minute — skip the long-form options on your first pass and see what the defaults give you.
Run one long session
Short chats flatter every app in this category. Talk for half an hour straight; that is where persona drift and repetition either show up or do not.
Only then decide about paying
Voice, images and deeper memory sit on the paid tier. Stay free until you are certain you will keep using it, then upgrade knowing what you are buying.

Should you actually pay for Swipey?
Four questions about how you would really use it. The result tells you which tier — if any — deserves your money.
Question 1/4
What do you mainly want out of it?
Test it on the free tier before you spend anything
Our score assumes you do the sensible thing: build one character, run a single long conversation, and upgrade only if the app has earned it. That path costs nothing and no card is asked for up front.
- Build a character without a card
- One long session tells you most of it
- Upgrade later — or do not
